Panjab University badminton team won silver medal in the Khelo India University Games, at Bhubaneswar. In the final tie, Panjab University went down 1-3 to Andhra University, whereas in semis they defeated Pune University 3-0. Kartik Jindal, Hardik Makkar, Mohit Goury, Bhuvan Kaushal, Abhishek Saini, Talvinder Singh and Paurush Dhawan represented the Panjab University team along with Coaches Surinder Mahajan and Bhuwan Sethi and manager Neeru Malik.

Monika, Jasmine in boxing semis

Panjab University boxers Jasmine and Monika, both trainees of The British School Boxing Academy (Sector 44) reached in the semis of the women’s boxing events. Jasmine defeated Banekar Priti of Shivaji University (Kolhapur) in the 54-57kg feather weight category to reach into the semis, while Monika overpowered Aanchal of YBN University in the 61kg category quarterfinals.

PU swimmers continue to shine

Panjab University swimmers won another gold medal in the ongoing Khelo India University Games. The first medal of the day came in 4x200m relay, wherein Panjab University team clocked 8:16.04s to claim the gold medal. The team of Savitribai Phule Pune University claimed the second position in 8:26.72s, while Delhi University team finished third in 8:36.64s.Meanwhile in the men’s 50m event, Panjab University’s Siddhant Sejwal clocked 27.43s to claim the gold medal. Sridhar Siva claimed the second position in 27.96s, while Mankar Shwejal claimed the third spot in 28.11s. In the men’s 100m event Mishra Rudransh claimed the top podium position in 53.01s, whereas Sarang Harshal finished second in 54.82s. Panjab University’s Sejwal clocked 54.99s to claim the bronze medal.

GNDU win in rugby

Guru Nanak Dev University (Amritsar) defeated Panjab University 5-0 in the men’s rugby sevens of the ongoing championship. In the women’s category, Lovely Professional University (Phagwara) defeated Panjab University 31-5. Gujarat University defeated Panjab University tennis team 2-0 to win the women’s gold medal.
