Chandigarh judoka Ishroop Narang wins bronze in Junior Asian Cup 2026

City girl and India’s rising judo star Ishroop Narang, currently ranked World No. 3 in the Junior Women’s -78 kg category, won the bronze medal in the Women’ -78 kg weight category at the Junior Asian Cup 2026 held in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. The medal winners in the Women’s -78 kg category are Kristina Konovalova (Russia), Akmarzhan Turdazhieva (Kyrgyzstan), Shoira Aminova (Uzbekistan), and Ishroop Narang (India).

The tournament, conducted from May 30-31, featured leading junior judokas from across Asia.

For Ishroop, a student of BA at MCM DAV College for Women, Sector 36, Chandigarh, the achievement is particularly significant as she emerged as India’s only medal winner at this prestigious international event, bringing pride to the nation and to Chandigarh.

Vivek Thakur, who was the coach of the Indian Junior Judo Team for the championship, said, "This medal reflects the hard work, dedication and relentless efforts of the athlete, coaching staff and support team."

NS Thakur, General Secretary, Amateur Judo Association, Chandigarh, congratulated Ishroop Narang and her coach Vivek Thakur for the outstanding performance.
