Decorated para-athlete and India’s lone woman Paralympics medallist Deepa Malik has been elected as the president of the Paralympic Committee of India (PCI), though the results of the elections are subject to a pending case in the Delhi High Court.

The 49-year-old Deepa, who won the silver in shot put F-53 event in the 2016 Rio Paralympics Games, was elected unopposed as the president in the PCI polls held in Bengaluru on Friday.

Gursharan Singh, who was acting as the interim president after former chief Rao Inderjit Singh was removed from his post last year, was also elected unopposed as the secretary general.

Kavender Chaudhury and Shashi Ranjan Prasad Singh were elected as the vice-presidents, while M Mahadeva was made the treasurer. Nale Nandkishor Baburao and Kantilal Parmar were elected joint secretaries. — PTI

The Tribune, now published from Chandigarh, started publication on February 2, 1881, in Lahore (now in Pakistan). It was started by Sardar Dyal Singh Majithia, a public-spirited philanthropist, and is run by a trust comprising five eminent persons as trustees.
