Sofia (Bulgaria), May 8

Rohtak wrestler Seema Bisla clinched the gold medal in the women’s 50kg class at the World Olympic Qualifiers after her opponent, Lucia Guzman from Ecuador, defaulted due to an injury. Seema had earned a quota place for the Tokyo Olympics on Friday after reaching the final.

However, India’s Greco-Roman put up a poor show today and none of them could qualify for the Tokyo Games.

India’s brightest chance was with Gurpreet Singh, but he lost his 77kg pre-quarterfinal in just 48 seconds to 2020 European champion Rafig Huseynov from Azerbaijan. — TNS
