As a part of one-month induction course for MBBS students, Baba Farid University of Health Sciences (BFUHS) has invited spiritual leader Sri Sri Ravi Shankar to help new medical entrants acclimatise with the new surroundings and increase their sensitivity towards issues of social relevance. The course has been introduced by the Medical Council of India (MCI) from the current academic year.

Sri Sri Ravi Shankar will deliver a talk on ‘Medicine, meditation and morality’ at Guru Gobind Singh Medical College here on November 23. The Minister of Medical Education and Research, OP Soni, will preside over this function.

In the recently held Vice Chancellors’ Conference, it was advised that students would be exposed to luminaries of the country, who would them to learn ethics, communication, morality, leadership, yoga and meditation. “So, we have invited Sri Sri Ravi Shankar to motivate our students for service to humanity,” said Dr Raj Bahadur, vice-chancellor of the BFUHS.

He is a well-respected and accomplished global spiritual master. As a man of peace and conflict resolution, he has been invited for keynote addresses and public talks all over the world, including international forum such as World Economic Forum, UNESCO, European Parliament, for his deep wisdom and understanding of the human mind, and the practical solutions he offered, said the VC.

His organisation, Art of Living, has benefited over 25,000 drug addicts in the state by rehabilitating them, said the VC.
