Tanzanian girl shot in leg, robbed of cash, valuables in Ludhiana

Accompanied suspect on his b’day party

Ludhiana, August 31

A Tanzanian national was injured when a man opened fire at her and robbed her of cash and valuables at Sarabha Nagar here. The victim, Magnaza, is said to be stable. She studies at a private university in Phagwara.

Magnaza had met the suspect through her friend to celebrate his birthday. In her complaint to the police, the girl said she had come to meet her sister in Ludhiana on August 29. “Meanwhile, I got a call from my friend from Hyderabad that her friend is also in Ludhiana and he needs a company to celebrate his birthday. She gave my number to him. After receiving his call, I, along with him, went to a hotel to celebrate his birthday.”

“When we were returning home after the birthday party, the suspect stopped his bike near Government School in Sarabha Nagar around 4 am last night. He had a pistol and he shot me in the leg. He snatched Rs 9,000, a watch and a mobile from me and fled the spot,” she alleged.

She was rushed to a hospital. The incident took place during the night curfew in the city.

According to the police, the girl had met the suspect through her friend. The victim has provided the phone details of the suspect to the police. A case under Sections 307 (attempt to murder), 397 (robbery, or dacoity, with attempt to cause death or grievous hurt) of the IPC and 25-54-59 of the Arms Act has been registered at the Division Number 5 police station.

The investigating officer, Jaspal Singh, said: “The girl is stable and she has been discharged from the hospital. She has given the suspect’s mobile number to the police. However, the suspect has turned it off. The investigation into the case is underway and we are making efforts to trace the suspect.”
