Teachers in Mohali want demands met, hold protest



Mohali, February 18

Hundreds of teachers held a protest rally at the Punjab School Education Board (PSEB) against anti-education and anti-teacher policies of the Education Department here today.

Sukhwinder Singh Chahal, state president of the Government Teachers Union Punjab, said, teachers were being harassed in the state in the name of education reforms. He said their main demands included immediate release of installments of dearness allowances, arrears and implementation of Salary Commission Report.

He said their other demands included implementation of equal pay for equal work, providing nursery teachers, helpers, uniforms and mid-day mails for pre-primary children, restoring PTIs and drawing posts in middle schools delivering comprehensive teacher-cum-teacher-centered data-centers in the primary schools.

Chahal said the union had been protesting against the anti-teacher policies of the Education Department for the past many months but nothing had been done by the department. — TNS
