Defence Minister Rajnath Singh today said that terrorists are not uneducated. They are graduates and technical degree holders. They are young too and have the zeal, but they kill people due to difference in values. He was addressing the gathering on the occasion of the 17th convocation of National Institute of Technology (NIT), Kurukshetra, on Thursday. A total of 1,339 students were awarded degrees during this ceremony.

The Defence Minister said, “Education is not everything in life. Terrorists are educated, young and they have zeal to do something in life. But due to difference in values, they kill people. A person working in Infosys wants to take the country forward due to the values he has got. On September 11, 2001, the World Trade Center was attacked and pilots crashed their planes into the towers, killing thousands of people and themselves as well. Didn’t they have knowledge and a good package? But they lacked the kind of values, thoughts and commitment they should have had.”

“I believe that values are more important in life. Comprehensive development of personality can be done through ‘diksha’ and not only through education,” he said. He mentioned about Kalpana Chawla becoming part of the NASA space mission and said, “It was a moment of pride not only for Haryana but for all of us. Air Force’s squadron leader from Haryana Minty Aggarwal played a crucial role in the Balakot air strike.”

The Defence Minister said, “After getting a degree, don’t be a job seeker. Become a job creator. In DRDO, I have seen that a large number of youngsters having technical degrees are getting associated with start-ups. They are doing inventions.

“Recently, we took a decision that the youngsters associated with start-ups or the DRDO will be able to transfer the technology to private industries too. We will give more opportunities and facilities to the youngsters associated with start-ups in the coming time. “You can’t imagine the kind of people who have taken birth in this country. They talk about caste, religion and hatred while India is the only country that gave the message of ‘Vasudhaiva kutumbakam’ to the world,” Rajnath said.

“We don’t want to see India just as a superpower but we want to see India as a world guru again and youngsters have an important role to play in making India the world guru,” the Defence Minister said. Rajya Sabha MP Sudhanshu Trivedi, NIT Director Dr Satish Kumar and former Chairman and Managing Director, Axis Aerospace and Technologies, S Ravinarayanan also addressed the gathering.
