Excess Profits in India

REPLYING to a suggestion by Sir Henry Craik in the House of Commons, that a revision of the arrangements regarding income-tax assessment in India be undertaken in order to enable the imposition of an excess profit tax, Mr Montagu promised to bring the matter to the notice of the Government of India.

In reality the question is not one of bringing the matter to the notice of the Government of India, because the matter has already been before them for some time, but of asking them to make up their mind.  We believe this is who Mr. Motagu now proposes to do.  It was, indeed, time the Government took the much needed step, which public opinion in India has now for months been urging with strength and emphasis.
