GOA-TYPE POLL SUGGESTED FOR TELENGANA

NEW DELHI, June 11—The Telengana agitation was discussed at an informal meeting of the Union Cabinet called by the Prime Minister, Mrs. Indira Gandhi, here this evening. The meeting lasted two hours and a half. The Home Minister, Mr. Y.B. Chavan, gave the meeting an assessment of the situation in the light of his two-day on-the-spot study at Hyderabad at the week-end. Mr. Dinesh Singh, External Affairs Minister, gave an account of his visit to Nepal and the Prime Minister acquainted her colleagues of her Afghanistan tour. The meeting took no specific decision to deal with the Telengana situation. But one Minister is understood to have suggested an opinion poll. His suggestion was that an opinion poll similar to that in Goa should be held in Telengana to find out the wishes of the people. No final measure is expected to be taken unless the PM has discussed the issue at Cabinet and Party levels.
