MPs AVERT CLASH IN LOK SABHA

NEW DELHI, April 22 (UNI, PTI)—The Lok Sabha today witnessed an unprecedented scene of two senior members almost coming to blows amid an agitated discussion on a call-attention motion on the court order for the arrest of Defence Security Corps personnel, responsible for the Cossipore Gun Factory firing. Mr. Tirath Chaudhuri (RSP) and Mr. N.P.C. Naidu (Cong) were seen advancing towards each other after exchanging angry words. Fearing a clash, several members, including Mr. A.S. Saigal, Mr. G.G. Swell and Mr. S.M. Banerjee prevailed upon Mr. Chaudhuri to calm down. A few feet away from Mr. Chaudhuri’s seat, Mr. Naidu was prevented from clashing with Mr. Chaudhuri by the Minister of State for Steel and Heavy Engineering, Mr. K.C. Pant. The discussion was marked by a reprimand of Mr. Jyotirmoy Basu (CPI-M) by Speaker Sanjiya Reddy for derogatory references against the Chair. “It is regrettable and this should not be repeated in future,” Mr. Reddy said.
