The Premier on India

MR. Lloyd George, while speaking at the Lord Mayor’s banquet in London on the 9th instant, referred to the great task that lay before the British Empire after cessation of hostilities. He said India and the Dominions should be represented and their voices heard. “Their share in victory has been conspicuous and they must have a voice which will be equal to their sacrifice in the determination of peace terms… These young nations fought bravely and contributed greatly and won their place at the Council table (War Cabinet). What is true of them is equally true of the Great Empire of India, which helped us materially to win those brilliant victories which were the beginning of the disintegration of foes. India’s necessities must not be forgotten when the Peace conference is reached.” We are glad that the British Premier has not forgotten to bring India’s service in the war so prominently at a time when such a reference was most desirable.
