Standard Food Prices.

A correspondent writing to the Pioneer points out that prices of food stuffs have risen heavily in Canada and the United States where the authorities are trying to fix prices and put down profiteering as far as possible.  He says in the USA, it is proposed that standardised price lists should be published everywhere in cities, towns and villages in order to protect both merchants and consumers. The lists are to be made up by price interpreting committees composed of representatives of wholesalers, retailers and consumers. The published lists will give the range of maximum selling prices, showing a reasonably low price which will effect charges ruling in “cash and carry” stores and a high price, representing a fair charge at “credit and delivery” stores. It would be advantageous if similar action is taken in India by the authorities to prevent unreasonable increase in prices of food grains.
