Three arrested for 70-yr-old’s murder in Hoshiarpur dist

The Hajipur police have arrested three persons in connection with murder of a 70-year-old person, whose body was found at the cremation ground here two weeks ago.

The police have also recovered the victim’s mobile phone from one of the suspects.

Lomesh Sharma, SHO, Hajipur police station, said on January 13, a case under Section 302 of the IPC was registered against unidentified persons. He said the complainant, Balwinder Singh of Hajipur, had told the police that Omprakash, alias Moni Baba, had been serving at the crematorium for the past two years.

Balwinder told the police when he reached the crematorium on January 12, he found Omprakash lying unconscious in a room. Thereafter, the victim was admitted to a hospital in Hajipur where he died.

The police had formed various teams to crack the case. The SHO said acting on a tip-off, Lakhwinder Giri, alias Binder; Ajay Loriyan, alias Bhundi; and Suraj were arrested.

Lomesh said during the questioning, the suspects confessed to their crime and said they had killed the victim with an aim to loot him. He said the suspects took away Rs3,000 and his mobile phone.
