Framing the BJP-led NDA ruling combine’s sweep of the eastern state as an endorsement of the Election Commission’s electoral roll revision exercise, the PM said the youth of Bihar had shown how seriously they took the purification of voter lists.
“Bihar is the land that gave India the glorious honour of being the mother of democracy. Today, Bihar has decimated anti-democracy forces and voted for the integrity of electoral rolls. It’s now the responsibility of every party to enable the purification of voter lists,” Modi said in his victory speech at the BJP headquarters after the BJP and the JD(U) combine registered a landslide win in the state today.
Home Minister Amit Shah and BJP president JP Nadda were also present.
In an important signal, the PM hailed the “phenomenal leadership” of CM Nitish Kumar and said today’s mandate was a firm rejection of the “Muslim-Yadav (MY) formula coined by communal forces and an endorsement of the NDA’s new positive MY formula which stands for Mahila, Yuva”.
Terming the Congress “MMC (Muslim League Maoist Congress)”, the PM slammed the grand old party for pursuing “negative politics” and asked its allies to be wary of a “parasitic Congress”.
“The Congress has no positive vision for the nation. Its entire politics is rooted in negativity — chowkidar chor hai, abusing the EC, attacking EVMs and undermining institutions. Today’s Congress is Muslim League Maoist Congress, which works to advance the agenda of India’s enemies rather than the country. This is why there’s now an emerging segment within the Congress which is uneasy with this negative politics. It is possible that the Congress witnesses another split soon,” said Modi, adding that the voters of Bihar had chosen development over dynasties and had delivered the message that they won’t back those out on bail.
Modi’s reference was to Tejashwi Yadav, the opposition Mahagathbandhan’s CM face who is facing a chargesheet in the land-for-job scam in a Delhi court.
Vowing to generate local employment in Bihar, Modi said the Bihar mandate was a “harbinger of new foundation of Indian politics which is pro-development and pro-governance”.
Noting that the Congress had been unable to win three digit seats in the last three general elections and had not won in the last six Bihar polls what the BJP won today in a single election, Modi said “people had rejected the party”.
He said the BJP and the NDA on the other had received successive historic wins in all Assembly polls held after the 2024 General Election — from Maharashtra and Haryana to Delhi and now Bihar.
“If the BJP and the NDA governments are being re-elected even after 20 years, it signals the establishment of a new pro-development, pro-people and pro-governance politics wherein every segment irrespective of caste and region is supporting our governments,” said the PM, especially thanking the women and the youth of Bihar.
He also hailed the Election Commission for conducting a peaceful election with zero repolls and recalled the erstwhile RJD era marked by frequent poll violence and repolling.
