Tractor-trailer driver shot at, robbed of purse, cellphone

The victim has been identified as Gurjit Singh, a resident of Pandori Gola village in Tarn Taran. He sustained a bullet injury on his leg.

The miscreants, who were travelling in an i20 car, abandoned him in the Khasa area in an injured condition. Later in the morning, he was admitted to Guru Nanak Hospital by some passers-by.

Gurjit, who was going towards the Tarn Taran side, told the police that he had recently bought the tractor-trailer and used to ferry sand in it from Ajnala to Tarn Taran.

“Around 2.30 am when I reached the Amritsar-Tarn Taran bridge at Manawala, a car came from the rear and occupants fired at me. I sustained a bullet injury in the leg. Thereafter, I parked the tractor-trailer along the road when the miscreants came out of the vehicle. Two of them bundled me into the car and the other two persond took away my tractor-trailer,” the victim stated to the police.

He said the miscreants thrashed him and took away his purse and mobile phone.

Suhail, Station House Officer (SHO) , Chatiwind police station, said the police had recovered the tractor-trailer and efforts were on to arrest them.

The police are examining the footage of CCTV cameras installed on the road to find some clues. A case has been registered in this regard.

Rs62K looted from finance firm employee

Two unidentified persons looted Rs62,000 from a field manager of a finance company in the Lopoke area here on Friday. The victim, Dharampreet Singh of Gadriwal village in Ferozepur, told the police that the miscreants decamped with his bag containing the cash.

The victim, who works in Bharat Finance Inclusion Limited, stated to the police that on Friday, he went to the Lopoke area for collecting money from villagers. He said when he reached near a drain, two motorcycle-borne persons came and rammed their vehicle into his bike following which he fell down. He said the youths snatched his bag and fled away. The bag also contained his tab and a bio metric machine. The police have initiated a probe into the incident.
