After the Sangrur school bus incident in which four children lost their lives, the Ludhiana police today conducted a meeting with school bus operators and schools officials. The meeting was conducted by DCP (Traffic) Sukhpal Brar, ACP Gurdev Singh and ACP Rajan Sharma.
DCP Brar categorically told bus operators to follow the guidelines of the Safe School Vahan scheme so that children being ferried to and from school do not meet with any kind of accident. The school bus operators were also asked to fulfil the safety parameters and instal all safety equipment in buses for the safety of children.
The officials said notices were also sent to the principals of all schools to apprise them about the Safe School Vahan policy guidelines.
“We have served warning to schools and if now onwards during checking of school buses any violation comes to the fore, a legal action will be taken against the schools found guilty. The checking of school buses has already started and may school buses have also been issued challans in the past few days,” said DCP Brar.
87 school buses challaned on day 3
As many as 473 school buses were checked at different locations in Ludhiana on Wednesday, of which 87 were challaned while one was impounded for flouting norms. Officiating DC Iqbal Singh Sandhu had earlier given instructions to officials concerned to conduct checking of school buses on a daily basis
