Caught cheating in exam, medical student punches invigilator in Karnataka
College initiates internal inquiry, bars student from appearing in other exams
A student of Dr Malakareddy Homeopathic College in Kalaburagi, Karnataka, allegedly assaulted a professor on invigilation duty, after he was caught cheating.
The student was identified as Shahbaz, who hails from Kerala. He was taking an exam of Homeopathic Materia Medica when the incident took place.
Assistant Professor Shivraj Kumar reportedly caught him using a mobile phone to copy answers during the examination. He confronted Shahbaz, seized his answer sheet and instructed him to leave the hall.
Moments later, the student returned to the hall and punched the invigilator. As the situation escalated, other students stepped in to stop Shahbaz.
The incident was captured in a CCTV camera.
Reportedly, the college administration took strict action over the incident. The student’s parents were informed about his behaviour, and he was barred from appearing in future examinations.
“As of now, no formal police complaint has been filed by the assaulted faculty member,” a source added. The college has initiated an internal inquiry and stated that further action will depend on its findings.
