An 'unpleasant experience' that too in Japan? Sounds unbelievable, right? However, an Indian traveller claimed he faced racist behaviour at a 7-Eleven convenience store in Shizuoka.

Content creator Anant M documented the incident in a viral Instagram video and it has since triggered online discussions about discrimination and the response of Japanese authorities.

The traveller alleged that the incident took place on his last day in Shizuoka when he visited a 7-Eleven store and asked a staff member to reheat his food. The employee initially agreed, but the store owner allegedly intervened, began shouting at him and made what he described as racist remarks.

Anant went on to claim the situation escalated when the store owner decided to call the police. However, he said the officers who arrived at the scene listened to both sides, assessed the matter and ultimately apologised to him rather than taking any action against him.

Sharing his account on Instagram, Anant wrote, “Thanks to Japan Police. It was my last day in Shizuka, Japan. While I was in a 7-Eleven, I requested the staff to reheat my food, which he agreed to. But later, the store owner shouted at me and made racist reactions. Later, she called the police against me, but things turned out differently, and the police scolded her and let me go with respect and an apology.”

He also thanked a Nepali employee working at the store, alleging that the staff member chose to speak truthfully despite facing pressure during the incident. Anant further claimed that the employee may have lost his job afterward because of the episode, though this allegation has not been independently verified.
