Punjab’s 'grand cash wedding': Viral clip shows bride showered in Rs 8.5 crore, family clarifies it was just Rs 4 lakh
Tarn Taran family of a groom in Punjab has dismissed claims that they showered the bride with Rs 8.5 crore in cash during their wedding celebration on February 1
A viral wedding video in Punjab has sparked a Rs 8.5 crore rumor, however, the family clarified actual cash shower was far less.
The video from the ceremony in Tarn Taran which has gone viral, showed the bride standing as currency notes rained down on her—a traditional gesture at many Punjabi weddings.
Guests danced while the floor was covered with notes and several others tossed cash into the air.
The clip quickly went insanely viral, claiming the family had splurged crores and dubbing the event a “grand cash party.”
However, Sikander Singh, the groom’s brother, clarified that the actual amount was much smaller, reports India Today. “My brother runs a truck business in Australia. The marriage was on February 14. We celebrated by showering money, but it was around Rs 2 lakh. Social media exaggerated it into crores, which is wrong,” he said.
The event manager and DJ who handled the function also confirmed that the total cash involved was approximately Rs 4 lakh, including some dollar notes. They said they were unsure how the Rs 8.5 crore figure surfaced and went viral.
Despite these clarifications, the video continues to attract attention online, drawing mixed reactions. Some viewers praised the festive spirit and grandeur of the wedding, while others criticised it as an flashy display of wealth.
