Rajasthan Royals offer Gautam Gambhir to be CEO, partner, mentor
Post-retirement, Gambhir was associated with IPL as a mentor of Lucknow Super Giants (2022-23), guiding them to the playoffs, and later led Kolkata Knight Riders to the IPL 2024 title in the same role
India men’s team head coach Gautam Gambhir, who is currently busy with the T20 World Cup, has reportedly been offered the mentor’s role by the Rajasthan Royals (RR).
As per a report by Dainik Jagran, one of the new owners of the franchise has approached him with an offer to join the Royals as the ‘CEO, partner and mentor’.
The report added that some of the shareholders of RR management are selling their stakes to the new owners and the deal is in a transferable state. One of the owners has offered two-to-three per cent of the stakes to Gambhir besides the triple role.
However, the former India batter will not be able to accept the offer as of now since he is currently serving as the head coach of the India cricket team.
As per a Supreme Court ruling based on the Lodha Committee’s recommendations, an individual cannot hold simultaneous positions within an IPL franchise and the Indian national team.
Gambhir has a contract with the BCCI till the 2027 ODI World Cup.
The former Lucknow Super Giants and Kolkata Knight Riders mentor has not commented on the reports yet.
