Rs 1,000-crore bungalow: Who is buying Maharaja Manujendra Shah's Delhi property?
Spanning across 12,950 sq metres, Tehri Garhwal house remains testament to Uttarakhand's princely legacy
Maharaja Manujendra Shah of Tehri Garhwal is reportedly selling his 3.2-acre Bhagwan Das Road bungalow for around Rs 1,000 crore.
Reportedly, the buyer is a local entrepreneur from the food and beverage (F&B) industry, the same businessman who entered into an agreement earlier to purchase former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru’s notable residence on Motilal Nehru Road for over Rs 1,100 crore. It currently belongs to the Rajasthan Royal family, Rajkumari Kakkar and Bina Rani.
Maharaja’s property is situated in the exclusive Lutyens’ Bungalow Zone (LBZ) on Bhagwan Das Road. Spanning across 12,950 square metres, the historic Tehri Garhwal house remains a testament to Uttarakhand’s princely legacy.
Founded by the Panwar Rajputs, the dynastry survived Gorkha invasions in the Anglo-Nepalese War to establish this prime Delhi estate.
According to report, the deal has reached its final stages. However, the identity of the buyer has not been disclosed yet. The deal highlights the soaring value of properties within the tightly regulated LBZ. A leading law firm, representing the prospective buyer, has issued a public notice as the final step in the process of due diligence.
"Our client is desirous of acquiring a residential property situated at Plot No. 5, Block no. 159 (presently known as 5, Bhagwan Das Road), admeasuring 3.2 acres (approximately 12,949.94 Sq. meter) and for the same, we are enquiring the title of current owner of the said property, Manujendra Shah. Any person claiming any right or title with respect to the said property may inform us in writing with particulars of claim along with documentary proof," the law firm said in the notice.
Manujendra Shah couldn’t be contacted for comments.
“The buyer family already lives in Lutyens’ Delhi and is in the final stages of buying two large bungalows in the same locality,” said a person aware of the deal. Both properties are trophy assets and are prized more for their historial and architectural prestige.
