A dance performance by school children in Assam to the song ‘Aaj Ki Raat’ from the film ‘Stree 2’ has sparked widespread outrage on social media. The act raises concern about its appropriateness, especially during a Teachers’ Day celebration.

Take a look at the video here:

The video, which surfaced online, shows a group of children performing a dance on a stage set up for Teachers’ Day, held annually on September 5 in India.

The children, dressed in costumes inspired by ‘Aaj Ki Raat’s’ original choreography, including one outfit similar to that worn by actor Tamannaah Bhatia, recreate some of the steps from the film. A banner in the background features a tribute to Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, who was an educator and the second president of India. His birthday is celebrated as Teachers’ Day.

Once the video surfaced online, it ignited a wave of criticism, with many questioning the school’s judgment in allowing young children to perform an item number during a Teachers’ Day celebration.

One user on social media platform X said, ‘This dance would not have happened without personal training by one of the teachers. All such dance and song programs by small kids are taught and choreographed by teachers of the school. I think that is the case here too.’ Another wrote, ‘This is such a shameful act from the organisers and parents who allowed this. What are we teaching our kids?’

‘Correction: The failure here is at both ends – the schooling and the parenting!’ a third person commented. ‘The problem with today’s parents is they want to get famous through their kids, whichever way possible,’ another added.
