A post shared by a woman on social media shows how a local drycleaner and his wife make more money than the salary of a software engineer with a 10+ experience.

She gives a picture into their daily earnings, which comes out to be around Rs 10,500; and then goes on to calculate their income to about Rs 2,83,500 monthly.

As crazy as this sounds, even after deducting the staff salaries and electricity bill, they still make a profit of Rs 2,37,500.

This gives a slight picture into today’s economic circumstances – white collar jobs may fetch you a paycheck, however, odd jobs or jobs in the unorganised sector might make you financially more well-off.

The post has garnered around 13,000 views, with many X users coming up with different perspectives. One user @imprathamesh01 commented, “Meanwhile, engineers are debugging code at 2 AM for Rs 2L a month…, and bhaiya is debugging wrinkles in 2 minutes for the same salary. Moral of the story: Should’ve learned ‘steam engineering’ instead of software engineering.”

Another user commented, “Business is not easy; only one in ten people who venture into starting a business breaks even—& even then, only with consistent, reliable service. Venturers often lose capital because fixed costs like shop rent, electricity bills, & assistant salaries prove too much to sustain.”
