It was on October 21 when samosas and cake meant for Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, who was visiting the CID headquarters in Shimla, were accidentally served to his security staff.

The controversy around the popular snack meant for Sukhu, which went to his staff instead, heated up making headlines on national television with the government, police and the BJP, all coming out with statements. The issue continues to be the most trending for the last two days on X.

The Crime Investigation Department (CID), which insisted it is not probing the matter but has submitted a written report, said that those responsible for the samosas and cake not reaching the right person, acted on their own agenda.

Sukhu said in Delhi on Friday that the probe was into "misbehaviour" of officials but the media was presenting it as an inquiry into the missing samosas. Sukhu claimed the BJP had been running a smear campaign against the Congress government since his party won a majority in the elections.

"The BJP's behaviour in raking up this issue is childish and laughable," he said.

BJP spokesperson Chetan Bragta said in a video statement that an "inquiry into samosas" shows the "misplaced priorities" of the state government, especially at a time when the general public is grappling with several pressing issues.

"Developmental works have come to a standstill in the past two years and the Chief Minister should pay attention to them and not such petty things," said Bragta.

Meanwhile, social media is flooded with bone-tickling replies and memes over samosas and now they are linking it to Maharashtra elections.

Taking a potshot at Himachal Congress,  BJP leader Anurag Thakur wrote: "Why is samosa trending today?"

One wrote: "A plate of jalebi &and samosa a day, keeps the Congress away!"
