A video of a man flaunting driving on the wrong side of a highway in a Mahindra Thar has sparked widespread outrage on social media, with viewers criticising what they described as a growing sense of entitlement among some SUV owners.

In the video, titled “Benefits of Thar”, the man is seen driving against traffic and claiming that owning the Thar allows him to flout traffic rules without consequences. He said that while the opposite highway was congested, he faced no resistance from other motorists while driving on the wrong side.

“The biggest benefit of buying a Mahindra Thar is that you can drive on the wrong side; no one says anything,” he said. “I paid Rs 20 lakh just for this—to drive like this without anyone objecting.”

He also suggested that sitting behind the wheel of a Thar gives a sense of unquestioned authority on the road.

The video was shared on X by off-roader and rally driver Rattan Dhillon, who condemned the mindset. “COVID ended, but another epidemic took over our roads—the ‘Thartards’ mentality virus,” Dhillon wrote, calling the behavior shocking and dangerous. He emphasised that the issue lies not with the vehicle but with the psychological shift some drivers experience after buying it.

Social media users echoed these concerns, highlighting the broader problem of entitlement among certain SUV owners. Many noted that it’s not the vehicle itself but the attitude of drivers that creates hazards on the road. One user shared that a friend who switched from a Honda City to a Thar now refuses to brake or give way, believing other drivers will automatically yield.

Several commenters also raised safety concerns, stressing that wrong-side driving on highways is extremely dangerous and can lead to fatal accidents. Others pointed to social issues, noting that upbringing and attitude, rather than vehicle type, often influence driving behaviour.

The video has reignited discussions about road safety, enforcement of traffic laws, and the dangerous normalization of reckless driving in India.
