Bring home the in-vogue look

Tex-Mix

A home that is devoid of a colourful and vibrant play of textures is not for 2019. The textures to look out for this season are the raw and nature-inspired ones. These range from rice paper, khaadi, jute to pure and pristine cotton. From carpets to bed linen to wall splashes and even in bric-a-brac for the interiors — mix and match these textures, and voila, your abode is a spanking new-year ready. Layering with different textures and varied tones of the same colour can salvage even an otherwise dull and boring monochromatic décor.

Personalised balconies

Yes, there are now many start-ups looking at personalising the balconies to your taste, but nothing stopping you from doing it on your own! Vertical gardens, low-maintenance cactus plants, a reading corner, wicker furniture and a pop of colour with cushions of varying sixes will do a neat job. Laying out faux grass carpet and hanging pot holders, along with terracotta lamps and wood hangings. Don’t forget the creepers on a trellis.

Wall art

The walls are all set get a new look with backsplashes of one tone to add an accent. Wall papers in bold colours and florals are set to take 2019 by storm.

Tin accessories and quirky showpieces will also compel you to pull down your last year’s ‘wall candy’. Mustard yellow is the go-to colour for a stand out see in your living room. Along with this, there is a heavy influence of artistic multi tones on the canvas of your home walls. Adorning walls with a statement piece might just be a passé this year.

Watch out for

The trends to watch out for include: the splash of colour to accentuate the whites; Boho-vintage vibe with old yet kitschy combination; passamenterie — or embroidered edgings and trimmings. While focusing on the accessories and linen, do not neglect the floors. According to designers floor is where the action lies — it’s getting lighter and woodier. Mix and match, play around with creativity and get inspired by nature. Inspiration is all around you be it the internet or the virtual media, click your way to a chic home.

Cooking in style

Open kitchens are going to hog the style limelight. In 2019 designers are bidding adieu to monochromatic and white kitchens. Colour is the way to go whether it is in the cabinetery or the choice of appliances. Complement the colour burst with raw appeal of wood and stone to make a statement.
