Jammu, January 27

Lieutenant-Governor Girish Chandra Murmu hoisted the Tricolour on the 71st Republic Day function at the Maulana Azad Stadium.

The Lt-Governor inspected the parade and took the salute at an impressive march past, which was commanded by Col RK Sharma of 5th Battalion J&K Light Infantry (JAK LI).

A multi-hued cultural spectacle based on national integration and the glorious composite heritage of J&K was presented by several hundred students from various local schools on this occasion. Besides First Lady Smita Murmu, the programme was witnessed by Chief Justice, Jammu and Kashmir High Court, Justice Geeta Mittal, Kewal Kumar Sharma and Rajiv Rai Bhatnagar- Advisers to the Lt-Governor, Judges of the J&K High Court, Chander Mohan Gupta, Mayor Jammu Municipal Corporation, Members of Parliament, BVR Subrahmanyam, Chief Secretary, Dilbagh Singh, DGP, former legislators, senior civil, police and army officers, political and social activists, prominent citizens and mediapersons .

Earlier, the Lieutenant-Governor visited the Balidan Stambh and paid homage to the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the honour of the country. He laid wreath at the Balidan Stambh.

The 71st Republic Day was celebrated in all districts of Jammu Division with great enthusiasm and nationalism.

Poonch: Republic Day was celebrated with patriotic fervour. The DDC, Poonch, Rahul Yadav, SSP Ramesh Angral, ADDC Mohammad Rashid Chowdhary, ASP Adil Hamid, ADC Sheraz ul Haq, officers from the Army were present on the occasion.

Rajouri: The main function was held at the district police lines where the Deputy Commissioner, Rajouri, Mohammad Nazir Sheikh, unfurled the national flag and took the salute at the march past. The Deputy Commissioner highlighted various developmental works undertaken in the district.

Kathua: Deputy Commissioner OP Bhagat unfurled the national flag. SSP Shridhar Patil, ADC Atul Gupta, ASP Ramnish Gupta, ACD Sukhpal Singh, ACR Joginder Paul, DSWO Abdul Rahim, district officers, prominent citizens, and a large number of people and students were present on the occasion. Republic Day celebrations were also held at Billawar, Hiranagar, Bani and Basohli.

Ramban: The District Development Commissioner, Nazim Zai Khan, unfurled the national flag. SSP Anita Sharma, SSP Traffic JS Johar, ADDC Nawab Din, ADC Ashok Kumar, CPO Kasturi Lal, senior officers of armed forces and a large number of people attended the function.

Reasi: Deputy Commissioner Indu Kanwal Chib hoisted the Tricolor. In her address, she called on all to set personal goals towards nation building. She stressed on the need to fulfil fundamental duties, punctuality and paying taxes.

Udhampur: The Deputy Commissioner, Udhampur, Dr Piyush Singla, was the chief guest who hoisted the national flag and took the salute. The DDC said the government was making earnest effort to provide basic facilities such as electricity, water, health, employment, roads etc to all the people of the UT.

Doda: Deputy Commissioner Dr Sagar D Doifode unfurled the Tricolour and took salute of the march past. The DC appealed the people of Doda to work together and promote national integration, communal harmony and peace in the district.

Kishtwar: Kishtwar Deputy Commissioner Angrez Singh Rana unfurled the national flag. The DC highlighted the importance of Republic Day and stressed on promoting national integration, communal harmony and peace.

Samba: Deputy Commissioner Rohit Khajuria inspected the parade contingents and took salute from the march past squads.


Murmu hosts ‘At Home’

Lt-Governor Girish Chandra Murmu hosted ‘At Home’ on the Lawns of Raj Bhawan, here on Monday afternoon. The ‘At Home’ was also attended by serving and retired senior civil, police, Central armed police force, Army and Air Force officers, Vice-Chancellors, war-widows, mediapersons and prominent citizens. The Lt-Governor and Smita Murmu, First Lady, interacted with invitees and exchanged greetings with them.

Ladies cultural event

Smita Murmu, First Lady of J&K, attended a “Ladies Cultural Programme” organised by the Department of Youth Services and Sports at Teachers Bhawan in Jammu on Monday. The event aimed at celebrating the spirit of womanhood through a host of cultural programmes, skits and exchange of thoughts, organised every year on January 27 as part of the R-Day celebrations by the Department of Youth Services and Sports. Smita Murmu, said, “It’s necessary to work for women empowerment since we constitute half of world’s population.

Historic day for new Ladakh: L-G

Jammu/Leh: After becoming a UT, Ladakh on Sunday celebrated its first Republic Day in a grand manner with the Lt-Governor RK Mathur terming the day as "historic to celebrate the birth of a new Ladakh as a UT. "We owe gratitude to our PM Narendra Modi that this has now become a reality," Mathur said in his message to people of Ladakh at Polo Ground in Leh town. After unfurling the Tricolour, Mathur praised the developmental activities undertaken by the Autonomous Hill Development Councils in twin districts of Leh and Kargil of UT. He mentioned the contribution of the armed forces in Ladakh in tackling various challenges. oc
