
Amritsar: Two persons, armed with a sharp-edged weapon, robbed a sweet shop here on Saturday evening. They were later identified as Mahabir Singh alias Mithu of Samadan Wali Gali and Gagan. Complainant Vijay Kumar told the police that he ran a sweet shop, Ganpati Bikaner, near Chattiwind Chowk. He said on Saturday, when he was present in his shop, the suspects barged into the shop and pointed a dagger at his servant Raj Kumar and threatened to kill him. They demanded cash from them. He alleged that the suspects took away Rs2,000 to Rs3,000 from the cash counter and fled from the spot. The police have registered a case under Sections 379B, 506 and 34 of the IPC. Gurnam Singh, investigating officer, said the suspects lived near the shop and raids were on to nab them. TNS
Army aspirant duped, 2 booked
Amritsar: The rural police have booked two persons for allegedly duping a local resident on the pretext of getting him recruited in the Army. Those booked were identified as Rajinder Singh and Amarbir Singh. Complainant Jagroop Singh of Jhadunangal village told the police that both the suspects took Rs3.30 lakh from him for getting him recruited in the Territorial Wing of the Army. He said they had relatives in the Army. The police have registered a case under Sections 420, 467, 468, 471 and 120B of the IPC against the duo. Further investigation is underway but no arrest has been made as of now. TNS
World Kabaddi Cup from Dec 3
Amritsar: Club teams of India will lock horns with the UK and another team from Canada to slug it out against the USA during the World Kabaddi Cup to be held here on December 3. The first match will be played between the UK and India here. Matches will commence at 11 am and will conclude at 2 pm. TNS
