Two sentenced to 8-year-jail in Rupinder Gandhi kidnap case

The court of Additional Sessions Judge Lukhvinder Kaur Duggal has convicted Ranjodh Singh of Nai Abadi, Khanna, and Raj Kumar of Master Colony, Gobindgarh, in kidnapping and murder case of Rupinder Gandhi (since deceased).

The duo were ordered to undergo rigorous imprisonment for eight years each on the charge of kidnapping. However, they were acquitted from the murder charge. They were also ordered to pay a fine of Rs 10,000 each.

A case against the duo along with nine other accused was registered at the Khanna Sadar police station on September 5, 2003, on the statement of Harpreet Singh. The duo absented themselves from the court when the trial was pending against them along with other accused. Earlier, the court had convicted six accused in the case.

The complainant had submitted to the police that at about 8.30 am he along with Rupinder Gandhi was going on scooter towards Daheru village when they saw a car coming from the Khanna side.

Baltej Singh, who was behind the wheel, hit their scooter, which was driven by Rupinder Gandhi. The accused along with other car occupants also fired shots and later, kidnapped Rupinder Gandhi in order to kill him. However, the accused pleaded innocence during trial. After appreciating the evidence on record, the court found them guilty.
