Over 20 lakh recoveries, death rate further declines to 1.91%

With over two million recoveries, India today crossed another milestone in the battle against the Covid pandemic.
The country saw the highest 60,091 recoveries over the past 24 hours, taking the count of those cured to 20,37,870. The total caseload rose to 27,67,273 with 64,531 fresh infections.
“The recovery rate has risen to 73.64 per cent while the fatality rate has declined to 1.91 per cent,” said the Health Ministry.
The higher recoveries and the falling death rate had shown that India’s graded strategy had worked, said Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan. India has posted 13,61,356 more recoveries than active cases (6,76,514). This, the government said, was a result of graded, pre-emptive and proactive response and management strategy for Covid-19 in the country and the push to test, track and treat strategy. Meanwhile, Covid deaths today climbed to 52,889 with 1,092 fresh fatalities in 24 hours, a major jump from single-day 876 deaths yesterday. — TNS
World Bank sees steeper GDP fall, cautions India
The World Bank has warned that the Indian GDP will perform much worse than its earlier assessment and called on the government to urgently implement reforms in key areas, including health, labour, land, skills and finance, to help it bounce back once the pandemic subsides. TNS
