US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent on Wednesday announced that the US Mint will begin striking a new $1 gold coin featuring President Donald Trump as part of commemorations marking the 250th anniversary of American Independence.
Announcing the move, Bessent said the commemorative coin was intended to honour the “enduring legacy of liberty” and serve as a lasting symbol of patriotism as the United States celebrates 250 years of independence.
“As America commemorates 250 years of independence, the US Mint will begin striking this new $1 gold coin to honour the enduring legacy of liberty and a lasting symbol of patriotism,” Bessent said in a post on X.
He added that the coin, featuring President Trump, “celebrates the strength of American values, and the promise of a nation dedicated to preserving freedom for all.”
The announcement comes as preparations gather pace for the United States' semiquincentennial celebrations in 2026, marking 250 years since the signing of the Declaration of Independence in 1776.
No further details regarding the coin's design, production numbers or public availability were immediately announced.
