When Epstein told Musk the gender ratio on his island may make his female companion uncomfortable
In an email exchange, Musk had asked Epstein when the 'wildest' party on his island was planned
With the US Justice Department on Friday releasing additional records from its investigative files on Jeffrey Epstein, resuming disclosures under a law meant to shed light on what the government knew about the financier’s sexual abuse of young girls and his interactions with wealthy and powerful figures, billionaire Elon Musk’s name, too, has popped up.
A set of emails shows that Tesla founder Musk reached out to Epstein on at least two occasions to discuss possible visits to the Caribbean island where many of the allegations of sexual abuse are said to have occurred.
In a 2012 email exchange, Epstein invited Musk to visit the island. He asked how many people Musk would like flown by helicopter to the island he owned — Little Saint James in the US Virgin Islands.
“Probably just Talulah and me,” Musk replied, referring to his partner at the time, British actress Talulah Riley — according to the dossier released.
As per the documents released, on Christmas Day 2012, Musk declined, writing, “The invitation is much appreciated, but a peacefTOul island experience is the opposite of what I’m looking for.” He said he had been “working to the edge of sanity” and asked Epstein if he had “any parties planned.”
Epstein responded that he understood Musk’s decision, adding that “the ratio on my island” (apparently referring to the gender ratio) might make Musk’s female companion uncomfortable, without elaborating further.
Musk and Riley, who were married and divorced twice, had a widely publicised on-again, off-again relationship.
According to the information released, Musk contacted Epstein again ahead of a planned Caribbean trip in December 2013. “Will be in the BVI/St Bart’s area over the holidays,” he wrote, asking if there was a good time to visit and adding, “What day/night will be the wildest party on our island?”
Epstein replied by extending an invitation for sometime after the New Year. It is not clear whether any island visit actually took place.
Spokespersons for Musk’s companies, Tesla and X, did not immediately respond to requests for comments by news agencies.
Musk has maintained that he repeatedly turned down Epstein’s overtures. In a post on X in 2025, after House Democrats released an Epstein calendar that included an entry referencing a potential Musk visit, he wrote: “Epstein tried to get me to go to his island and I REFUSED.”
