IIT Kanpur to launch 2nd cycle of online PG admissions
Up to 9 programmes on offer; classes to begin in September 2026
Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Kanpur, has announced the upcoming launch of admissions for the second cycle of its Online Postgraduate Programs.
Building on the success of its inaugural cycle, the institute is returning with an expanded and more diverse portfolio of programs designed for both working professionals and fresh graduates who are seeking flexible, world-class education from one of India’s premier institutions.
Applications for admissions are expected to open soon, with classes scheduled to commence in September 2026.
The admission cycle will offer up to nine Senate-approved programs across disciplines that lie at the intersection of emerging technologies, sustainability, and evolving industry demand.
The M.Tech (Online) programs include Wireless Networks & Machine Learning, RF Engineering, Microelectronics & VLSI, Construction Engineering & Project Management, Sustainable Energy Technologies, Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning, and Smart Grid.
In addition, IIT Kanpur will offer the M.Sc. (Online) program in Economics & Data Analytics and the PG Diploma (Online) in Cyber Security. The M.Tech and M.Sc programs are structured to be completed within two to four years, while the PG Diploma program can be completed within one to two years, allowing learners to pursue advanced education at a pace that aligns with their professional and personal commitments.
Prof. Vimal Kumar, Professor-in-Charge of the Office of Outreach Activities at IIT Kanpur, noted that the second cycle of admissions introduces an expanded portfolio of programs that enables learners to pursue flexible online education while gaining access to world-class academic expertise.
“These programs are designed to help learners strengthen their technical capabilities, broaden their perspectives, and prepare themselves for leadership roles in critical and emerging sectors,” he said.
The programs are open to both working professionals and fresh graduates alike. To be eligible, applicants must have a minimum CPI of 5.5 or 55 per cent marks in their qualifying degree. Admissions will be considered through valid national-level examination scores, such as GATE or JAM, meeting department-specific cut-offs, or through IIT Kanpur’s own online entrance test.
Individual departments may also specify additional requirements, including relevant academic background, professional or research experience, or participation in an interview.
