Dehradun, September 18

A Class X girl was allegedly gangraped by fellow students at a boarding school in Sahaspur in Dehradun district and the matter was kept under wraps by the school authorities for over two weeks, according to the police.

Nine persons — four students, aged 16-18 years, accused of perpetrating the crime and five members of the school staff, including the  director, principal and administrative officer — have been arrested, said ADGP (Law and Order) Ashok Kumar.

The matter came to light on Monday, a month after the incident took place on August 14, he said. The survivor, suspecting pregnancy, narrated her ordeal to her elder sister.

Her sister, who studies in the same school, approached the school authorities but they tried to hush up the matter, the ADGP said.

They threatened to throw the sisters out of the school and even tried to abort the  victim’s pregnancy, he said.

The victim’s sister then confided in a relative who approached the police. The school staff arrested are director Lata Gupta, principal Jitendra Sharma, administrative officer Deepak Malhotra, his wife Tanu Malhotra and maid Manju. — PTI
