Dehradun, January 12

The Uttarakhand Government has “backtracked” on its decision to provide financial assistance to kin of Prakash Pandey, who had committed suicide by consuming poison at the BJP office recently.

DK Chaudhary, District Magistrate, Nainital, had announced a relief of Rs 12 lakh for next of kin of the deceased, besides a contractual job for his wife. However, it seems that these announcements were made solely by the District Magistrate and the government is in no mood to fulfill these.

Spokesperson for the state government Madan Kaushik today said, “The DM may have made the announcement on his own. We are not aware of it. It is a sensitive issue. We have already received seven calls, wherein people threatened to commit suicide in case their problems are not solved.”

It has come to light that the DM made these announcement after BJP MLA from Kaladhungi Banshi Dhar Bhagat reportedly told him that he had already held talks with the Chief Minister in this regard.
