Dehradun, April 5

Leader of the Opposition in the Uttarakhand Legislative Assembly Ajay Bhatt and chief whip of the BJP in the Uttarakhand Legislative Assembly Madan Kaushik today submitted a petition addressed to Speaker Govind Singh Kunjwal seeking disqualification of BJP MLA from Ghansali, Bhim Lal Arya, under the Anti-Defection Law.

The petition was received by Vidhan Sabha secretary Jagdish Chand. The BJP claimed that Arya had gone against the party whip by remaining absent from the Vidhan Sabha on March 18 during the passage of the Budget.

The BJP claimed that the very next day the Harish Rawat government had rewarded Arya by appointing him the vice-chairman of Dr Bhim Rao Ambedkar Committee (constituted to observe his 125th anniversary celebrations).

Significantly, the Uttarakhand BJP after issuing him suspension notice had not followed with his expulsion from the party.

Infact, soon after the rebellion mounted by the Congress MLAs, Leader of the Opposition Ajay Bhatt had lauded the absence of Arya and said it had helped the BJP.

Today, the BJP submitted a petition addressed to the Speaker demanding his expulsion from the party.
