Chandigarh and its surrounding areas received rain on Friday morning, which brought down the temperatures.

Rain and thunderstorm activity began around 1 am and continued intermittently till morning, with thick cloud cover hovering over the tricity through the night and the sun remaining elusive. Several trees were uprooted across parts of Chandigarh following strong winds.

The India Meteorological Department said the wet spell is likely to be accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds at speeds of 30 to 40 kmph at isolated places. The conditions could further intensify the prevailing cold wave across the region.
