Faridabad, February 23
A dustbin stands tall in Ballabgarh’s city park in the name of Plastic Donation Centre, set up by the Municipal Corporation, Faridabad (MCF). The dustbin’s inaugural ceremony was presided over by Transport and Mining Minister Mool Chand Sharma here today amid much fanfare, but the MCF seems ill-prepared for the project. It is still unclear about the disposal of the plastic waste. The civic body, which claims to have started the facility to encourage the dumping of plastic waste at one spot, is also yet to come up with a comprehensive plan about the recycling process. Incidentally, the bin, 5.5 ft high x 3 ft wide, has a capacity of 50 kg only.
“We are in the process of chalking out a proper strategy for the recycling of the waste,” said Virender Kardam, Superintending Engineer, MCF. The waste was likely to be sold to companies or vendors engaged in manufacturing products from such waste.
“The municipal corporation is also considering dumping the waste at the disposal point at Bandhwari village, where the company handling it proposes to generate power from the waste,” Kardam said.
While the authorities are yet to chalk out the disposal process, plans are already afoot to open two more such centres in the city shortly.
“Two more spots will be marked in the city to collect plastic waste,” the Superintending Engineer said, adding that the MCF will soon have a tie-up with the vendors.
