AI-generated clips of Ali Khamenei and Libya’s Gaddafi flood social media, blurring lines between satire and misinformation
A fresh wave of AI-generated videos is taking over social media timelines, with global political figures appearing in bizarre and often humorous scenarios—leaving viewers both amused and concerned about the growing sophistication of deepfakes.
The latest to go viral is a clip showing the former supreme leader of Iran Ali Khamenei in the same café where Benjamin Netanyahu was recently seen sipping coffee.

One user on X commented, “Nobody knows who’s real and who’s faking.” On another post of the same video, a second user wrote, “Coffee in the cup doesn’t even move and that is Bibis voice haha”.
A third comment read, “Imagine how awkward if they ran into each other! I bet they would both pretend to not see the other.”
The setting immediately caught users’ attention, as Netanyahu’s original video had itself gone viral after he appeared to mock rumours of his death, and showed his five fingers.
In another viral instance, a clip of Muammar Gaddafi, the former de facto leader of Libya (1969–2011) has resurfaced—this time reimagined through AI as a rapper. The video, clearly fabricated, has nonetheless gained traction for its uncanny realism and unexpected humour, with users widely sharing it as a meme.
