China plans 300 satellites for low-orbit network

Beijing: China plans to launch 300 low-orbit satellites to provide worldwide communication services, with the first in the series to be launched later this year, a report said on Monday. The first in the array — Hongyan constellation — is set for launch by year-end. The constellation comprises 300 satellites and data processing centres. The satellite network will take place of ground-based network and allow a mobile phone to be connected everywhere on the planet. PTI 

Mob culls 300 crocs in Indonesia revenge attack

Sorong: A mob has slaughtered 300 crocodiles in Indonesia after a local man was killed by one of the reptiles, authorities said on Monday. The revenge killing happened on Saturday in Papua province following the funeral of the man, who perished when he fell into an enclosure at a crocodile farm, police said. An angry mob later attacked the farm with knives, machetes and shovels which they used to slaughter 292 crocs, a protected species. AFP

Mexican President-elect slashes own salary

Mexico City: Mexican President-elect Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador says he plans to earn 40% of what his predecessor makes when he takes office in December as part of an austerity push. Obrador said he would take home 108,000 pesos ($5,707) a month, and that no public official will be able to earn more than the president during his six-year term. AP
