London: An Indian woman physics teacher in the UK is among the top 50 contenders from around the world for a global prize of USD 1 million.



London: An Indian woman physics teacher in the UK is among the top 50 contenders from around the world for a global prize of USD 1 million. Kavita Sanghvi has been recognised for her method of teaching physics as principal of MET Rishikul Vidyalaya in Mumbai by The Global Teacher Prize 2017, now in its third year. It was set up by Indian-origin entrepreneur Sunny Varkey to recognise one exceptional teacher who has made an outstanding contribution to the profession. PTI

MP in ‘trousergate’ row with Theresa May      

London: Conservative MP Nicky Morgan has pulled out of a planned appearance on a TV show after a row over her criticism of British Prime Minister Theresa May’s expensive designer leather trousers. Morgan, 44, a former education secretary, angered Downing Street by querying why May had spent 995 pounds on a pair of leather trousers. The “trousergate” row dominated several newspaper front pages, with a number of Conservative MPs having their say on the matter. PTI

Rio gets UNESCO world heritage status               

Rio De Janeiro: Rio de Janeiro, nicknamed the Marvelous City, officially entered the UN’s list of world heritage sites in recognition of its soaring granite cliffs, urban rainforest and beaches. The UN cultural body, UNESCO, highlighted the “extraordinary fusion” of manmade and natural beauty in certifying Rio on the world heritage list during a ceremony held at the Christ the Redeemer statue on Tuesday.
