Amritsar: A 23-year-old youth identified as Jatinder Singh, a resident of Sadhpur Chogawan, lost his life after a car hit his bike on Tuesday. Nishan Singh, a relative of the deceased, told the police that he, along with his cousin Jatinder Singh, was going to Mehmudpur village on separate bikes for some work. When they reached near Sialka village, a car coming from a wrong side hit Jatinder's motorcycle, as a result of which he fell down, Nishan said. Jatinder died on the spot while the car driver fled away from the scene. The police have registered a case under Section 304A , 337, 338 and 427 of the IPC against an unknown car driver. TNS
PO nabbed in theft case
Amritsar: The Ajnala police on Tuesday arrested a proclaimed offender, who was wanted in a five-year-old theft case. He was identified as Vinay Kumar, a resident of Bhakha Tara Singh. According to information, Vinay was booked by the Ajnala police in May 2012. He was declared a proclaimed offender by the Judicial Magistrate, Ajnala. The police said it received a tip-off that the accused had come to his home, following which they conducted a raid and arrested him. TNS
Conference on fire safety
Amritsar: A conference on fire safety at schools and hospitals was organised by Mata Charan Kaur College of Public Health here on Wednesday. It was attended by representatives of schools and hospitals, who were educated about the need for fire safety measures. Officials of the Fire Department of the Municipal Corporation, along with experts of disaster management, covered various aspects of fire accidents, including safety, rescue and fire fighting. The experts also discussed structural deficiencies, hindrances in evacuation and the importance of mock drills. TNS
