Panchkula, January 16

Suspecting his wife of having illicit relations, a 22-year-old youth living in Rajiv Colony in Sector 17 here allegedly strangled his wife to death and later committed suicide by jumping in front of a train near Baltana today.

The couple has been identified as Faizan (22) and Saba Noor, who was almost the same age as her husband. The body of the victim was found at their house in Rajiv Colony and was shifted to the mortuary of the Civil Hospital, Sector 6. Police officials said prima facie, it appeared the woman was strangled with the cord of a mobile phone charger. The woman had injury marks on her neck. However, the exact cause of the death would be established only after the postmortem.

Jagdeesh, in-charge of the Sector 16 police post, said, “Their marriage was mired in conflict, especially during the past five months.”

Dilshad, father of Faizan, said the couple had a heated argument last night. “My son was suspicious of his wife getting calls from a man in Meerut. My daughter-in-law had even lived at her parents’ house in Meerut for a brief period in the past. However, she had come back after a compromise,” he said.

Confirming the incident, the GRP SHO, Inspector Naresh Kumar, said when the police found Faizan, his limbs were dismembered and he had suffered a serious head injury. He died while being taken to the GMCH, Sector 32. The postmortem will be conducted tomorrow.
