Amritsar, December 24

The drug wing of the Health Department has submitted its final report regarding seizure of habit- forming drugs from godowns owned by local medicine manufacturing units. According to the report, around 3 lakh tablets and capsules were recovered in four separate raids at godowns.

The local authorities have also asked the State Drug Controller for permission to initiate further proceedings against the two manufacturing companies. Sources in the department said samples of seized material had been sent for testing, whose report were awaited.

Officials of the drug wing had started raiding two medicine manufacturing units — Jackson Pharmaceutical Industries and UV Pharma Agencies — from December 15 onwards. Habit-forming medicines were recovered during raids. Later, drug wing also conducted search at godowns of both firms.

The names of the two pharmaceutical firms had cropped up during an investigation conducted by the Tarn Taran police after it had seized around 5 lakh tablets and capsules from Gurbir Singh. The inquiry revealed that medicines were manufactured by local firms.
