Excise Dept takes over Parwanoo barrier

Officials of the Excise and Taxation Department took over the Parwanoo unit of inter-state toll tax barriers at midnight after the licence of the company authorised to collect tax was cancelled for pending liability worth Rs6.13 crore.

The licensee, Sawan Express Highway King, who had obtained the licence to collect toll tax from three barriers of Parwanoo unit, at a price of Rs13.31 crore from April, had failed to pay the monthly installments in time.

The department had served several notices on the company, it failed to deposit it in time and even the cheques given failed to be honoured.
