Global peace meetings to mark X-mas celebrations

MANDI AHMEDGARH: To express sympathy and solidarity with the aggrieved families of victims of recent Peshawar massacre in Pakistan, residents of local town and surrounding localities have decided to keep Christmas and New Year celebrations a low-key affair this year.

To express sympathy and solidarity with the aggrieved families of victims of recent Peshawar massacre in Pakistan, residents of local town and surrounding localities have decided to keep Christmas and New Year celebrations a low-key affair this year.

Meetings will, however, be organised to pray for global peace and for paying tributes to the deceased students and teachers of Army School, Peshawar, who were killed in the terrorist attack.

The decision was taken during a meeting of office-bearers and activists of social and religious organisation of the area at Municipal Children Park.

Former president of the Municipal Council Ravinder Puri said office-bearers and activists of majority of organisations of the town and surrounding localities had decided to keep Christmas and New Year celebration a low-key affair owing to the recent Peshawar carnage.

Speakers, including Baldev Singh Latala and Sikandar Singh Jartauli, office-bearers of Punjab Kisan Sabha, Lalit Kaura, and Dr Vikas Hind, president and secretary of Rotary Club, Dr Rajinder Mittal and Pawan Gupta, chairman and president of Social welfare Organisation, Hamid Mohammad and Munir Mohammad, president and secretary of Muslim Welfare Association, and Surjit Gogna and Amar Singh Saraon, chiefs of local units of BJP and SAD, maintained that being immediate neighbours, it is imperative to stagger celebrations for time being.
