Later, the team removed encroachments from Chattiwind Chowk, Shahida Wali market and Kot Baba Deep Singh. Municipal CorporationInspector Inderjit Singh said a few of the shops were issued warnings regarding encroachments.

The MC had also conducted a drive to remove encroachments in a joint operation with the Traffic Police yesterday.

In the drive, encroachments near the Bhandari Bridge, Crystal chowk, Lawrence Road and various other places were removed.

The head of the Anti-Encroachment Committee, constituted by the Municipal Corporation, Anil Arora, said, “The basic objective of the drive is to free the roads of illegal occupation to ease the flow of traffic.” He said around two dozen encroachments were removed today in the entire city.

Arora said they had worked out a schedule for the drive and encroachments on the Batala road would be removed on Wednesday.

He said the drive would continue as the Municipal Corporation had plans to cover all areas.
