Amritsar, December 23

A speeding trailer wreaked havoc on the road in the city late last night as it hit around half a dozen vehicles while being driven on the wrong side of the road. However, no one was injured in the incident.

The police have issued a challan to the driver for driving at a high speed on the wrong side of the road and jumping traffic signals. The owners of the vehicles that were hit by the trailer alleged that the driver was under the influence of alcohol.

However, a medical examination got conducted by the Civil Lines police station revealed that the driver had not consumed any alcohol.

SHO, Civil Lines, Sukhwinder Singh Randhawa, said, “It seems that the driver had hit a vehicle accidentally. Later, he tried to flee at high speed. While doing so, he tried to drive on the wrong side of the road.”

He said though the trailer had been impounded, no criminal case against the driver, Ranbir Singh, had been registered. “The trailer had hit a few vehicles, but none of the owners was ready to file a written complaint as the damages were meagre.”
