‘MH370 may have been shot down by US military’

London: Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370 that mysteriously disappeared with 239 people on board may have been shot down by the US military fearing a hijack and a 9/11-style attack, a French ex-airline boss has claimed. Marc Dugain, the former head of Proteus Airlines and an established French author, has gone public with his theory that the missing Malaysia Airlines aircraft did not go down anywhere near where authorities and rescue teams have been searching for a possible wreckage. UN panel removes 'sahib' from Saeed's name, regrets mistake
United Nations: A UN panel has regretted the use of the salutation 'sahib' for the Mumbai terror attack mastermind and JuD chief Hafiz Saeed and issued a "revised" letter removing the word after India objected to it. The chair of the Security Council's Al-Qaida Sanctions Committee issued a revised letter in which it has "regretted the mistake" in the previous letter dated December 17. PTI

Global arms treaty comes into force from today
United Nations: A treaty laying down international rules for the $85 billion global arms trade goes into force from Wednes with campaigners vowing to make sure it is strictly implemented. The United States -- by far the world's largest arms producer and exporter -- has signed the treaty, but has yet to ratify it. PTI

UK clinches historic Northern Ireland deal
London: The UK on Tuesday brokered a broad historic agreement on key power-sharing issues with Northern Ireland to save the fragile seven-year-old alliance between the two sides. British Prime Minister David Cameron said he was delighted a workable agreement has been reached in Belfast. PTI
